Peace and All Good! My name is Kathleen Agosto and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New Jersey. Having been involved with the Hispanic community since 1974, I am fluent in Spanish and feel that I am a competent bilingual & bicultural therapist.
Working at My Therapy Connection™ allows me to expand on my goal for families and for the world. Namely, that being in a relationship and being a part of a family does not have to hurt. I work primarily with couples who wish to repair and rebuild their relationship into one that is flourishing. As a professional, my experience has led me to have a great appreciation for the joy one can experience in living in a healthy relationship. It has also led me to a unique place where I am competent to work with individuals overcoming trauma, grieving the loss of a loved one, battling cancer, or those who cannot see their own worth.
Much of my work has been with families impacted by trauma. I spent years working with families who were traumatized by sexual abuse, domestic violence, chronic poverty, loss of family connection, and foster care. This experience prepared me for the age and time in which we now live – when anxiety and depression are so prevalent.
My formal training began at Rutgers University where I was allowed to read great literature for a degree in English followed by my attendance at Neumann University where I studied Pastoral Counseling in the Franciscan Tradition. Wanting to be better prepared to work with families, I then completed an internship at what was then the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center. There, I studied for two years to become Certified in Structural Family Therapy. In 2012, I began supervising post-graduate Marriage & Family Therapy Therapists. I am additionally trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Training. Licensed since 2005, I have worked in various in-home, outpatient, and private practice settings.
I am an avid reader, and you will often find me studying current therapeutic trends as well as natural healing practices for the mind and body. When I am not working as a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 42 years, my children, and my grandchildren.
If you think you would like to come in and talk about what is happening in your life, please know that you’ll be welcomed. I may not have all the answers because I believe that the answers lie within you. I will heartily endorse your hearing your own most authentic voice and working on goals which you will determine.
Take good care. Be well.
