  • Lauren O’Shea, LAMFT

Hello and welcome to My Therapy Connection™. My name is Lauren, and I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist practicing via Telehealth only for clients in New Jersey. I live in Hawaii where I am a medical student at the Oceania University of Medicine studying to become a medical doctor with the intent of specializing in psychiatry.

I enjoy working with couples, children, and individual clients. I also have a passion working for military and law enforcement families. As your therapist, I want you to know that my approach is tailored to you and your unique situation. Whether you need help with life’s day-to-day challenges, processing a difficult loss, navigating an unhealthy relationship or you have been simply struggling to survive, I am here to work through these challenges with you so that you are not alone.

I believe in creating a therapeutic environment in which you can be free to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without judgement. I hope to help my clients live their best lives by identifying and exploring what this looks like for them as well as explore ways in which to accomplish their goals.

I like to tailor my therapeutic approach to meet the needs of the individual client. However, I use my training in “systems” theory and clinical psychology as a baseline. I use Gottman Method Techniques, Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques, interactive play therapy (for children and adolescents) along with a wide variety of other treatment methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I work under the supervision of Jillian Young, LPC, ACS. License number 37PC00441700.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Psychology from Northcentral University. Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Letters and Society from the City University of New York, after which time I lived in a variety of states around the country as a military spouse and teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at a local New Jersey College.

My experience includes working both in a hospital and private practice setting. I have worked with clients (and their spouses/families) who have been diagnosed with a variety of mental health disorders, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. I have also worked with those who have been struggling with addiction. I have experience working with children with Autism, post-partum mothers, and I have taught parenting classes.

In my free time, you can find me snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, and exploring Hawaii’s beauty with my family, friends, and my Maltese and Samoyed pups. I am a life-long learner, so I enjoy reading when I am not studying, and I make a habit to enjoy solitude and to engage in self-care activities like yoga and baths to stay in balance.

I welcome any questions that you may have about me or whether you think Telehealth will work for you. Because I know that Telehealth may not feel ideal to many people, I offer a complimentary ten-minute phone call.

Please feel free to reach out to me at loshea@mytherapyconnection with any questions you may have.
