Thank you for visiting My Therapy Connection™. My name is Asia McNeil and I am a Licensed Associated Marriage and Family Therapist supporting folks in New Jersey.
Navigating life can be challenging and stressful, and along the way, many of us need support in managing these challenges. As a Marriage and Family Therapist I have a passion for supporting individuals, couples, and families through various life transitions including rebuilding trusting relationships, strengthening relational communication, and recovery from traumatic experiences. My approach to therapy is always collaborative, and client(s) centered. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives and I have the privilege to bear witness to those stories with a respectful and non-judgmental approach. I believe feeling comfortable, understood, and validated is the foundation of successful therapy.
I’m passionate about helping clients untangle and unlearn old patterns of behavior while offering useful, alternative skills for new behaviors. My hope is that clients leave the therapeutic space with more love and self-compassion than when they walked in.
My mission is to guide clients through their healing journey by offering a supportive and informative understanding of anxiety, depression, relational issues, and the effects of traumatic events. Much of my therapeutic orientation is through a trauma-informed lens because I understand how traumatic events impact all areas of a person’s life.
I value working with people from diverse communities and I have experience working with the intersectionality of identities and experiences. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan from age 5 to 65.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Moravian University with a major in Health Sciences and I received my Master of Family Therapy degree from Thomas Jefferson University with a concentration in Sex Therapy.
I have completed Level 1 Training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Level 1 & 2 Training in The Gottman Method for Couples. I use these methods to help couples foster an empathic and compassionate relationship with research-based interventions and communication skills.
I have also received Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training from the CARES Institute at Rowan University, and have extensive training and experience in grief and loss. Additionally, I specialize in overcoming anxiety, managing depressive symptoms, and the effects of traumatic experiences.
When I am away from the office, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, learning new hobbies, visiting animal shelters, and trying new cooking recipes. Most fall and winter days you can find me snuggled on the couch with a good book and a hot cup of tea. During the spring and summer, you will find me enjoying quality time at the beach with friends and family, or spending time with my niece and nephew at various amusement parks.
When you’re ready, I’m here to help you navigate this thing called life. Please feel free to contact me for a complimentary 10-minute telephone consultation. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
