My name is Kim Gerardi and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for My Therapy Connection™ treating teens, adults, and couples.
Seeking therapy can be a life changing experience with great benefits and it can often be accompanied with a sense of apprehension. Being vulnerable is not easy but your courage in taking that step forward into therapy can be what enables you to live with greater joy, peace, and connection.
You are not alone in wanting the help to feel better. We have all encountered challenges and adversity in life and the decisions you make during these times can change the trajectory and quality of your life. During these times, self-esteem can suffer, happiness can be more difficult to come by, and the world may not feel like a safe place. We feel distant from those we love, and intimacy decreases.
I am here to help you acknowledge the barriers that are keeping you from living a more fulfilling life. My goal is to help you have deeper connections in your relationships, stand beside you as you heal past wounds, and support you no matter your needs.
Though it may not always seem so, my personal life and professional experience, along with over two decades of educational knowledge have shown me that there is great strength within you.
I have a great passion for helping others specifically to encourage others to the belief that they can live a life of joy, peace, and connection.
In order to have a successful therapeutic experience, I believe it is most important that you and I have a positive and trusting relationship. It is my job to make you feel comfortable and safe. I generally have a naturally curious, inquisitive nature which influences my therapeutic approach and contributes to my passion for learning.
It is of great importance to me that I have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be the best helper I can be. To ensure this, I am continuously seeking further knowledge in various ways whether it be some type of specific training or reading a book pertaining to the psychotherapy field or doing a good search on where I can find more information on a certain topic. My zest for knowledge always has my brain in some type of information.
To name a few, I’ve received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Written Exposure Therapy (WET). I also received intensive trauma informed training through Lakeside Global Institute becoming Certified as a Trauma-Competent Professional. In addition, I’ve also had trainings on Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). For couples, I have completed Levels 1 & 2 in the Gottman Method for Couples.
My education to fulfill my passion as a professional helper primarily occurred within the California State University(CSU) educational system. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development with a counseling emphasis from the CSU San Marcos in 2004. I received my Master’s in Social Work from CSU Long Beach in 2007, starting my professional social work career that year. Much of my experience was within healthcare systems working as a hospital social worker and within inpatient psychiatric settings. I received my Clinical Social Work License (LCSW) in 2018 and have been providing direct talk therapy since 2019.
