    Kaylin Dixon, Counseling Intern

Hello, and welcome to My Therapy Connection™! My name is Kaylin Dixon, and I am currently a Graduate Student at Thomas Jefferson University. Within this program, I am pursuing a degree in Community Trauma and Counseling.  I am pursuing this degree because I know there is a large demand for mental health services within today’s world. I want to begin to help those who have endured various traumatic experiences and life stressors redefine their lives. Regardless, how big or small one considers their life adversities, I wish to help clients cope with the experiences and challenges they have weathered. I am passionate about working with children and adolescents who have experienced various life adversities, with hopes of instilling positive skills to promote healing. I believe that taking the step to begin therapy is extremely commendable and a day-to-day process. I want any clients with me to feel safe and that their voices are being heard.

Within this, my goal is to provide positive tools and resources to help restore and rebalance their lives. I utilize a compassionate and empathetic approach to make your counseling journey most beneficial. Experiencing traumas, bullying, anxiety, depression, and sudden life changes can be confusing and challenging to anyone, but especially children. I want to help today’s youth navigate and map out this, at times, intimidating world. I believe that everyone should be provided with the services and resources that counseling has to offer, as it will create impactful changes within ourselves. Navigating this life is unpredictable to say the least. As an intern, I want to be able to serve as a support system for adults and adolescents during these various stages of life.

I earned my undergrad degree in psychology at Howard University in Washington, DC. During that time, I mentored teens and adolescents within the local juvenile detention center. This time allowed me to gain valuable skills and insight surrounding the complexities of trauma and adverse life experiences that many teens and young adults face. I have completed QRP training, which is a suicide prevention certification. Additionally, I have taken courses in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (tf-cbt).

I grew up in the South Jersey area. I played sports for most of my life and am a die-hard sports fan. I have found my passion for helping children throughout the years of various jobs and mentorships I have had with young children. During my free time, I enjoy starting new hobbies and learning new skills. For instance, I learned how to play the keyboard and am now currently training for local runs such as the 5k,8k in hopes of eventually running a 1 ⁄ 2 marathon. I like to refer to myself as a positive person and quick to try and make someone laugh, as I believe laughter is truly the best medicine.

I encourage you to begin by reaching out to have a short conversation to get to know each other and ask any questions you may have.  I am available for a complimentary 10-minute consultation by simply calling (800) 845-0336.

As an intern, I work under the supervision of Helana Russo, LCDAC, LPC, ACS License#37PC00747500
